Important dates and meetings:
Official duration of the spring semester is from January 27, 2025 &#8211; June 13, 2025. 
&#8211; January 27 &#8211; 31. Preparatory Week. During this week, there will be an informational meeting with the International Relations Department of EKA, as well as a first meeting with the department of your chosen specialty. The exact times for these meetings will be announced before the start of the semester. 
&#8211; February 2. Welcome event for all new exchange students. 
&#8211; February 3. The beginning of the studies in the spring semester. 
&#8211; May 19 &#8211; 23. Speciality evaluations week. 
&#8211; June 13. The end of the spring semester studies.

Courses:
Exchange students make their own study plans by choosing subjects from speciality and optional courses. 
SPECIALITY courses: These are subjects provided by your specialty department. Exchange students will combine individual schedules of different year courses offered by their department. Each student has received their course list to their email.
e.g. Fashion Design offers courses only for fashion students. 
OPTIONAL courses: courses offered by different departments for all the students of EKA despite their speciality. Unfortunately, the official list of available optional subjects will be announced only in January. Until then, we can share a course list from the previous spring semester to give you a general overview of the potential possibilities.

e.g. Architecture offers a course where all the students can participate in no matter what is their home department. 
Please note that the provided course lists may change. 
Your course selection can change throughout your exchange, so you can add or remove courses after the initial selection.
COURSE SELECTION AND SCHEDULE 
Official registration for the specialty courses will be done a week before the beginning of classes (January 27 &#8211; 31). Only after students have been officially registered will they see their individual timetable in our study system. Detailed information about the registration process will be sent in August.

Registering in Tallinn (for EU/EEA students):
In order to obtain the right of temporary residence EU/EEA citizens (who stay in Estonia longer than three month):
<ol>
<li> must register themselves as citizens of Tallinn within three months from the date of entering Estonia </li>
<li> apply for the Estonian identity card (ID-card)</li>
</ol>
Gives many benefits, for example the right to use public transport for free in Tallinn (together with the Estonian ID card).
Before departure, it is mandatory to sign yourself off from the Population Register.

<li> Applying for the Estonian ID card at the Police and Border Guard Board office (for EU/EEA students)</li>
</ol>
Within the period of one month from registering your place of residence, you must go to the <a href="https://www.politsei.ee/en/contacts">Police and Border Guard Board</a> (two in <a href="https://www.politsei.ee/en/services/services/">Tallinn</a>) to apply for an Estonian identity card (ID-card) which certifies your right of temporary residence.
Required documents for the Estonian identity card:
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">-the application form (you do not have to complete the application form before you go to the Migration Office);</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">-your identity document;</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">-a coloured photograph sized 40&#215;50 mm (you can the digital photo at the Bureau or at the Photopoint of Fotolux shop)</li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">-a document certifying the payment of the state fee: 25 EUR.</li>
</ul>
After the registration at the Population Register and applying for the Estonian identity card, the right of temporary residence is granted for a period of five years.

Registering in Estonia, Tallinn (for non-EU students):
● Non-EU Students, whose study period is longer than 3 months must apply for for a <a href="https://www.vm.ee/en/consular-visa-and-travel-information/visa-information/application-long-stay-d-visa">long-stay (D) visa.</a> 
● No other registration for a legal stay is requested, which means the students with D-visa can not apply 
for an ID card.
PS! When non-EU student holds a Residence Permit or D-type visa of any other EU Country, which is 
issued for studies, (it has to be written on the document, based on the EU directive 2016/801) and the 
Residence Permit/Visa is valid during the study period, the student has a right to study in Estonia.
