General

Thank you for your interest in applying for exchange studies at EKA!

Each semester EKA has the pleasure to welcome around 50-60 new incoming exchange students from our partner universities. With the help of fellow students and staff members, they all settle into the life of EKA quite quickly and normally enjoy their experience with us a lot.

Nearly all of our departments accept exchange students, even though the language of tuition is officially Estonian in most. At the same time we do not expect our exchange students to speak Estonian and instead they are integrated in practical courses, where the teachers guide international students individually in English or the group work language will be switched into English. In addition there are also several MA programmes available fully in English and we offer theoretical and practical optional courses in English as well (the list of courses is confirmed prior to the beginning of the semester).

As EKA is a small university and our study groups are small as well, therefore it is normal for our heads of curriculums to know their students personally. So in case any problems might arise while you study at us, you are always welcome to turn to your head of curriculum or any other staff member in the building.

Application procedures

First you should contact your home university’s coordinator who will have to send a nomination e-mail to incoming@artun.ee.

Once EKA International Office has received your nomination and confirmed it, you are welcome to submit your online application form together with required documents (see down below) to EKA by the deadline.

Deadlines for applications and nominations:

  • May 1 (for autumn semester and the whole academic year)
  • October 15 (for spring semester)

After the deadline, all applications will be sent to corresponding departments, where the heads of curriculums make the decision based on students’ application.

The International Office will notify the applicants about acceptance/denial within a month.

Please be noted:

– Applications for the academic year 2024/25 are accepted as usual

– Unfortunately we do not provide an official course catalogue for the new academic year yet, but we do guarantee 15 ECTS for speciality courses and 15 ECTS for elective/general courses. Not all courses that we teach, are available for exchange students, depending on the currcula you are applying to, since the main language of tuition is Estonian. List of all courses at EKA are available here.

– Due to small study groups, EKA reserves the right to select incoming students basing on the application (motivation statement, portfolio etc)
